The musical journey of Charles Dockins goes back a few decades ago. My fondest memory is the classic hit, We Can Do It (Wake Up) – Charles Dockins Presents James Howard on Emotive Records. I would hear this joint come up in many mixes, including in my Friday night sets on the radio and abroad.
After making several bangers since then, the Baltimore native returns to drop more heat with Our Day on Ebony Sky Records, which is also available on his Band Camp page. This project contains 16 full mixes, including vocal, organ, piano, and percussive reworks. My favorite is the 90’s Piano Vocal Mix in which I dropped in the mix on my April 24, 2021 broadcast on Chicago House Radio.
The drums and percussion grip the dancefloor from the sound of the speakers, gliding the listener on a very strong and integrated movement. And oh yes! Your head is going to nod throughout the listening process, especially if it is placed in the mix the right way.
